Starting a Style Notebook

Moleskin Notebook

Moleskin Notebook

One of the great tools to make for yourself when shopping or going to the tailor is something I like to call a style notebook. I am a big fan of moleskin soft covers because you can roll them up and put them in your back pocket and they are thin enough to toss into your attache without bulking it up.

The key to your notebook is really what you put into it. I subscribe to several menswear periodicals and am always conscious of color choices I like and how certain pieces are put together. I usually pick out my favorites and simply cut and paste them into the notebook. As old fashion as this may sound in the digital age, I enjoy the hands on approach to collecting these photographs in one go to book.

There is also an excellent site called POLYVORE that lets you put pieces together all on one page. Since their men’s choices are oft limited, I prefer the creation of a personal style book.

Have fun with this and create one for each season. Try to stay away from the trends so your notebooks can stay as timeless as your wardrobe.
