GQ Summer Suit Slideshow

GQ has Will Arnett showing off some fresh gear in this months periodical. I was really impressed to see a $100 (GASP, GQ!) H&M khaki suit in the first two images. It looks like it’s been tailored and would be a great addition to your style notebook.

Summer Shoes For Men

Let’s get one thing straight, gentlemen:

I am ANTI-FLIP FLOP

For too long I have seen people exposing their feet dangerously close to the disgusting New York streets, subway platforms, and subway car floors. And do not give me that, “Well, New York is so much cleaner now” speech because I just saw a homeless guy using a hydrant as his own personal bidet today. Not only that, but have you looked at the bottom of your feet after you’ve walked around all day in those? They’re probably black. That’s gross. Plus they are just awful with any attire. Please don’t “dress it up” and get “fancy flops”; those just make matters go from bad to worse.

OK, so now what do you do besides resorting to the flip of flop? Well, I have several suggestions:

I just read about a  shoe made in Spain called ABARCA (which sparked the whole idea for this post). I cannot find them in any of the stores in the states but I find this a great template for what to look for in a good men’s summer shoe that keeps the feet nice and cool without making you look like you forgot to change your footwear post shower at the gym:

Another nice and inexpensive alternative is the very lightweight CHENG’S PLIMSOLL from Urban Outfitters. They look like you’ll get maybe one, two seasons out of them but for $18 a pop (or 2 for $30) you may as well give them a shot this summer. They look like they’ll handle the heat pretty well on your sockless peds:

And finally my favorite of them all is the Driving Moc. These are very masculine, comfortable, can be worn with jeans, shorts, summer suits, and you can go sock less with them without looking ridiculous.

The Budget Workout

With summer just around the corner, you may want to look into getting rid of that excess winter weight by starting a workout regimen. Here are some recommendations to get you started. If you don’t live in NYC, look for free yoga classes in your neighborhood:

Cedar Fresh Set

I picked up a cedar set at Bed Bath And Beyond last week to add some freshness to my closet and shoe cabinet. At $14.99 the set is a great buy for anyone who wants to keep moisture and odors away from their gear. My favorite in the set has to be the hanger circles. I’ve placed them on all of my shirts and suits.

New Product Alert – Peasants + Travelers

One of the best perks of running a blog is that I get to review great products that have not hit the market yet. Today’s focuses on a men’s bag/luggage company called Peasants and Travelers. Headquartered on the West Coast, designer Jee Kim has an obvious handle on excellent construction and color combinations. My yearning question was, “Can one of these bags really take a beating in New York City?” So a sample was sent and a love affair began.

When the Computer Bag (see pics below) arrived the first thing I noticed was the excellent construction and clean minimalist design. In my hands it felt strong, sturdy, yet really light. The zipper opened with smooth ease to reveal a special surprise inside: interlining made of men’s shirt material and compartments galore. I brought it around my office and everyone was very impressed with the look and design.

In the wild, the bag is a dream. I stuffed it with a small umbrella, my laptop, a copy of The New Yorker, gum, cigarettes, a pen, my phone, etc. and something amazing happened. It didn’t feel  heavy. Even the handle remained comfortable as I commuted from Brooklyn to Manhattan, ran errands, and commuted back again.

The bags come in a range of clever designs and have a unique feel to them. There is a design called The Doctor Bag and The Envelope Bag that are way very striking yet not flashy. It’s just the right amount of pop you can add to your wardrobe without over doing it.

Check out my photos below and grab one of your own starting this week at:

Prices range from $45-$199. The Computer Bag is $69.
