H&M Wows The Crap Out of Editor; Attributes It To (Possible) Psychic Bond.

I always enter seasons with very specific ideas. This summer I had a few basics in mind to create a meld between a Summer In New York circa 1925 or a blazing French August in 1952. To complete this look I know I needed a few basics but was weary about where to go. I am still in the process of watching my coins carefully and whilst passing through Brooks Brothers and Paul Stuart I saw so many fetching items but could not squeeze all of their prices into my budget.

So I traveled up 42nd street to my old faithful H&M and it was almost as if my mind was being read by whoever was stocking the racks. There I found what I call my pair of “Great Gatsby” shorts, several basic t-shirts that I desperatley needed, a pair of really nice linen pants, and, amazingly, two pairs of mens espadrilles. I was floored because it was, in all honesty, EVERYTHING on my summer basics list. Psychic bond? Coincidence? Over dramatic Editor reading into things too much? I may never know.

“SAVE FASHION” – Men’s Week(end)

Matt from Imparali tipped me off on an event at Port Authority this weekend called “Save Fashion”. On their site it is described as “a fresh new kind of shop and sale that brings together today’s coolest fashion in a space that’s inspiring and unexpected.” I’m going to stop by today to see what it’s all about. Indochino Review #4

I could not pass this suit up when it was offered on Indochino not only because of the pattern but they were giving two free shirts away with the purchase. I jumped in and bought the Subtle Blue Check suit and got an e-mail shortly after ordering that they had already ran out of the fabric but had an identical fabric but with a light pink overcheck. I agreed and the suit was cut and sent in a matter of weeks. When it arrived I was very suprised at how close the cut was this time. I needed no alterations on the pants and only a slight taper on the waist. Everything else feels so perfect. Actually, it is by far the BEST fitting suit in my arsenal. No tugging, no tightness, yet everything lays perfectly on my body. I cross referenced the pattern with my copy of DRESSING THE MAN and found out the fabric is BLACK AND WHITE PLAID IN TROPICAL WEIGHT WITH PINK OVERCHECK. Take a look at the photos below for the final results. Pictured in the photo as well is one of the free shirts they sent me.

The $3.00 Steam Facial

Adult pimples are a problem. I have, essentially, turned to every known product that claims to give you the best looking pores possible and have always come out looking like someone suffering a mild case of rosacea post product usage. My dermatologist told me my skin is very sensitive and so prescribed to me some $80 bottle of cleanser that did the trick but I could not really afford another $80 out of my wallet every two weeks or so.

I did a massive amount of online searching and found that steam facials work wonders. I also found that my favorite face lotion contains chamomile which has given me excellent results. After putting two and two together I bypassed investing in a $60 facial steamer, found a clean sauce pan large enough to put my face over, boiled up some water, and dropped 2 tea bags in. I let the water boil whilst I showered and after I got out put a timer on for five minutes, covered my head with a towel and soaked up the soothing vapors. Afterward, my face felt really refreshed and clean but noticed that more breakouts were bubbling up! After further research I found out that this is totally normal. It’s actually your skin rejecting the toxins from your face and clears up in about a day.I have to say the results for me are stunning. My face is much clearer than it was just a week ago. I steam once in the morning and once before bed.

Remember to steam AFTER your shower and AFTER you clean your face. After you steam and pat your skin dry, you must put moisturizer on.

So there you have it. The $3.00 Chamomile Steam Facial.

To recap, here’s what you need:

1.  A very clean pot or saucepan large enough to emit steam evenly around your face.

2. Filtered or distilled water.

3. Chamomile Tea (I prefer Celestial Seasonings about $3.00 at Duane Reade)

Indochino Introduces New Site, Styles

Indochino has upped their game once again with a cleaner website and some excellent new cotton suits for the warmer weather. They’ve also added thumbnails of the fabric swatch next to each suit. This still isn’t as good as having the actual swatch but a brilliant move none the less.

So far I love what I am seeing especially the Dark Khaki Cotton piece pictured below.

Pocket Sized Style Tips

Although not really pocket sized but well small enough to fit in your bag of choice, “A Well Dressed Gentleman’s Pocket Guide” is like the portable “Dressing The Man”. It is a fantastic little book to have with you at all times and helps to answer most of men’s sartorial inquiries as well as some very detail oriented matters like what the best kind of sock is made out of (dyed yarns is the answer to that one).
