A Look Ahead At Spring 2010: The Suit

Suit: H&M $90, Shirt: Indochino $90, Tie: Altea $14, Pocket Square: Lands' End $10 Shoes: Florsheim $60
For spring, I love the simple cotton suit that goes from the office to a night out with just the right amount of wrinkle. The suit above is from H&M and will need a slight bit of tailoring but generally off the rack fits pretty damn well. I love the functional double boutonnieres as well.
If they start doing functional buttons on the sleeves H&M will be ahead of the curve for off the rackĀ suiting choices.

Arg, where are you getting these Indochino shirts for $70? They all look like they’re in the 90-100 range to me. Did you buy them a while ago?
Jeff,
Yeah, I bought this a while back when they had different price points. Probably best I change the price to the updated one. Sorry, man!
Best,
Dennis
Dennis,
Was this a recent H&M purchase? I haven’t been there in a few months; maybe I should get back! Looks great!
Thanks for all of the helpful advice – keep up the great work.
Adam
Adam,
Yes, I just bought this last week.
I found it at the H&M on 5th Avenue and 50th in NYC, second floor.

Dennis,
I have the same colour jacket, with a bit of a shimmery finish. I’m at my wits end trying to find the pants. Summer is cooing to an end and I’m disappointed that I won’t ever get to wear my khaki suit.
This is a great combinaton by the way.
Thanks M!
Have you thought about looking for a Made To Measure suit maker where you are in South Africa? A lot of issues with fit can be solved with a custom made piece. Especially the pants.
I checked out your most recent post and the tailoring you have had done so far is really great, man. I cant wait to see what the end result of that gray suit is!
Best,
Dennis
Those are weird diagonal darts..
I know!! I only really noticed them after I took the photo.
Hey Dennis. I’ve bought one from Indochino a few months back when I first started to buy quality suits. I did some research before wearing it out and found out that there’s some sort of unwritten rule about linen and how you’re not supposed to wear it until after Easter or late spring. What do you have to say on the subject? By the way, I live in San Diego.
Generally linen should be worn after Easter or in late spring, but I think if it’s warm enough, go for it.
My best,
Dennis
Great suits!,
Might have to pop into H&M very soon.
Our Distil Ennui studio shot a very similar type of suit for London based label Social Suicide
not too long ago.
Thanks, Fernando. I’m going to have to check out that Social Suicide line.
H&M is getting better with each season. I’m considering opening up the button holes on the sleeves so I have functional buttons as well as functional boutonnieres.
Best,
Dennis
