What Alan Flusser Packed In 1983
One of the many perks of working with Mr. Flusser is that I come across very unique and interesting archive material. Case in point the photo below from the Japanese magazine Brutus originally published in 1983. What I love about it is how timeless the wardrobe is. You see nothing embarrassingly outdated, just good taste all around.
In essence this is what I’ve been attempting to pull off with my own wardrobe (albeit from a less costly point) and through the musings on this space. We all owe it to ourselves as grown men to have a timeless wardrobe that will outlive ourselves.
I have more posts coming soon including reviews, outfits, the most expensive shoes I ever purchased, and some brand new videos.
Stay tuned.

Really? A goofy t-shirt, mickey mouse slippers, Hawaiian shirt, schlitz? You think that stuff is timeless? Sorry, but I have to disagree w/ you this time.
Are you looking at the big picture or the things you don’t like? Formal slippers have been around for ages and come in many forms both with ironic and interesting stitching on the toe. If you haven’t noticed, formal slippers have made somewhat of a resurgence as of late and this predates the current “fad”.
It’s funny you pointed out the Hawaiian shirt because I’m about to do a post about why Hawaiian shirts should never have gone out of favor, an idea I had before I even found this photo.
I don’t mind your critique, Wolly, as you’ve been a long time commenter and reader but take a step back and look at some of the tasty items in the photo.
You may have a change of heart.
My Best,
Dennis
I like it simply because it makes Alan more human. We all have a personality, and why not a love for Disney characters! I would argue they are more timeless than South Park:)

While Alan’s wardrobe may not be ultra conservative in this photo, you can tell he has fun with it. There are all the classics in there if you look carefully, though.
I’m especially obsessed with the ostrich leather shoes. We have an ostrich belt in the shop and it’s amazing.
He must have had one hell of a suitcase to pack all that in!
I gather there were at least two…!
The item I would not have expected to see would be the filthy New Balance sneakers. Not what I would have expected from the guy who wrote “Dressing The Man”, but it certainly does make him seem more down to earth than I would have expected based on what I have seen of him and his reputation.
Question: Are shoes you jog/exercise in supposed to look pristine?
Certainly not…but those look like they are at the end of their life (or beyond) as opposed to the beginning.
I wasn’t criticizing him or anything, just something I wouldn’t have expected to see, especially not in a staged photo such as the one at issue.
In looking at it again, it also strikes me that I am looking at a 28 year old picture, and as you pointed out, nothing appears out of date. You could have told me that picture was taken last week and that would seem reasonable.
Except for the curtains and bedspread, perhaps
See, that was really my point in posting this. Everything in it can be worn today.
Thanks for commenting!

Fantastic.
